Type “A” Troubles”
It is 6am, here in Shawnee, America, and I’m having my second cup of coffee at McDonald’s. This is not according to my plan, but unfortunately not all that unusual these days. As a confirmed Type “A” individual, life does have its occasional setbacks. I have already driven from OKC to Shawnee to meet with my grandson, an OBU student…at 7am!. Something is wrong here.
A friend once said he wrote a book on ADHD one night. I can sympathize. Since college days, early morning has been “my time.” After all, most of the folks who will disturb you later in the day are still resting up. But I love the quiet, undisturbed early morning hours and the humble privilege of meeting with the Master without interruption.
But today, I left home at 5a, drove the 45 minutes to Shawnee, and am now helping the McDonald’s crew open up shop. You see, being in a hurry can sometimes be costly. Proverbs 19:2 reminds us that that “Desire without knowledge is not good and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way.”
And that’s what I did! Jeannie thinks I’ll probably show up a day or so early for my funeral. I hate it when she mocks me. (There’s a verse about that too, Shug!). So before I meander to the counter for another cup of coffee (Its stll thirty minutes before I meet my grandson!) I thought I’d just get this blog finished while my wife and friends are still in bed.
Isn’t there a verse that says something about early birds and worms? Should be!
Let’s see…where’s my cup?
